Manager Uli Stelike has named a preliminary 25-player German under 20 squad for the World Championships in UAE starting on November 27.
Stelike in an agreement with the DFL did not call regular Bundesliga and English league players Phillip Lahm (VFB Stuttgart) , Mike Hanke (FC Schalke 04), Emmanuel Krontiris (FC Alemenia Aachen), Moritz Volz (Fulham London) and Sascha Riether (SC Freiburg).
The goal:
"The highest goal is it to promote to the younger DFB talents in such a way that they can exist in the federal league and become generally accepted there with their clubs. In addition we did not want to expose the Under 21 players to too much football. Therefore we must accept the interests of these players and the associations now with much understanding and a certain generosity. We have sufficient talent at our disposal. We look with justified optimism and ambition in this WM. A first stage goal is qualifying from the group with South Korea, the USA and Paraguay"-Uli Stelike.

29.11.2003 South Korea - Germany (17,30 o'clock MEZ/20.30 clock OZ)
