Head coach Thomas Schaaf is dealing with some personnel issues ahead of the game against Austria Vienna. Tim Borowski, who was going to replace the injured Torsten Frings, is dealing with a bruised foot. "We hope that he can go ahead on Wednesday," said Schaaf. But it is far from a certainty that "Boro" can play.
There is also a question mark behind Claudio Pizarro as well as Hugo Almeida. "Hugo has been training now for a while, including some intensive sessions. But I am not thinking whether or not he will be on the roster on Thursday. We have to wait and see if it makes sense," said Sebastian Prödl. The Austrian would love to play against his compatriots. But it's unclear if he will be nominated.
One certainty is that Marcelo Moreno will not be on Werder's game roster. He has not returned to training since breaking his cheekbone in the game against Kaiserslautern. "With Marcelo it is important to wait a couple days. Then we have to see to it that he starts with some light running. Maybe early on he will even have to wear a mask," said Schaaf about the health of his striker.
