Greece international Theofanis Gekas has agreed a loan switch to Hertha Berlin from Bayer Leverkusen until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old striker, who had a brief spell at Portsmouth last term, could move to Hertha on a permanent basis next summer if the temporary switch proves to be a success.
Hertha have struggled for goals this season following the summer departures of Andriy Voronin and Marko Pantelic.
"We have reached an agreement both with Bayer Leverkusen and the player and are happy that Theofanis will play for us," said Berlin's general manager Michael Preetz.
"He will be the new signing that we are looking for."
Coach Friedhelm Funkel added: "He is a real goalscorer who can score goals with very few chances and he is also very quick, which will be good for our game."
