An exciting second half ended with the Werkself celebrating a 4-2 victory against relegation-threatened VfB Stuttgart. The guests had the first chance of the game on three minutes through Cacau but it was the Werkself who found the back of the net. The left side of the Stuttgart defence was particularly exposed in the early stages of the match. Sidney Sam looked lively from the start and posed a constant threat to the visitor’s defence in the opening minutes of the game.

Stuttgart found Sam almost impossible to handle. He broke through again on 13 minutes, passed the ball into the box once more where Kießling was waiting to fire in his second goal. However, Khalid Boulahrouz made a last-ditch tackle to deal with the threat. It then took the Werkself a while to wrest back control of the game. Even after Heynckes brought on Derdiyok, Bender and Michael Ballack, VfB Stuttgart looked more likely to score the the next goal as they created a number of good chances.

Sam made a brilliant solo run from his own half into the Stuttgart penalty area. He picked out Kießling and the Germany striker doubled his goals tally for the day.
