BVB and youth
(Sulke) Some weeks ago, when Emmanuel Krontiris, a talented youth player of BVB Borussia 09, signed a contract with second division team Alemannia Aachen, it was again thinking about BVB and their talents.
Lars Moller, Christian Timm, Florian Kringe and now Emmanuel Krontiris are only a few famous examples of young players that try their breakthrough somewhere else than at BVB. There they get the chance to develop and of course they can play there. Participating in official matches? A luxury that youth players in the German champions team can only dream of.
There is the big question why that Borussia holds such a good amateur squad, full of talented youth talents to let them play only in third division Why are they investing huge sums into talent searching only to let them sit on the bench or even on tribune? Why does coach Sammer fight against a transfer of Achenbach to 1860 Munich when this player doesnt play a role in Dortmund squad? BVB should ask this questions themselves, then in todays economy situations it should be the target of every club to save useless investments.
Since Ricken nobody else has realized to get from BVB youth team into the proteam. Tanko and But showed good skills, but live now not only because of bad BVByouth politic but also because of their bad pro lifestyle- in the boring Breisgau province. Whats the cause for this?
Well its true that pressure is bigger at BVB than at a little club or in a weaker league but you should think that quality passes these obstacles. Itsa fact that BVB is a European top team and has a good quality squad with a lot of excellent players with huge concurrence for youth players in competing for the starting eleven. But here the coach must give these guys a chance to show their talent not only in training session but also in official matches. Why shouldnthe bring a talent after 70 minutes when BVB is leading and not in minute 89. There this players could show what they can so as Odonkor did it a few times last season.
They dont have to integrate all of this players but talent searching would be successful for BVB when they could bring every year one or two talents into the circle of the 16 best players in BVB squad. But when it goes on like this, then our talents will be blocked by players like Heinrich and co. who are set into starting eleven no matter what their performance is like and our youth wont get a fair chance. So its only a question of time when players like Ratajczak, Odonkor, Thorwart, Achenbach and others will leave Borussia for another club where they get a fair chance, because there is no future for BVB youth player. Letshope that this will change because it makes no sense to do such a good talent work when it doesnt bring success for anybody.
P.S. Since this article was published at the begin of February 2003 on Schwatzgelb.de , there have been a few changes. Ahmed Madouni has become an important player for BVB, Guy Demel and Leandro made there first league matches for Borussia and there are more amateur players in BVB squad. So there are still efforts to make but you can recognize a trend that BVB and Sammer react, perhaps this article is in some ways a little bit guilty ;-)
