Knee Operation For Borussia Dortmund’s Kevin Grosskreutz After Germany Debut
Kevin Grosskreutz enjoyed his debut for Germany on Thursday evening but will undergo knee surgery next week.
The 21-year-old striker, who has been a revelation for Borussia Dortmund in this season’s Bundesliga, was involved in die Mannschaft’s 3-0 victory over Malta in a charity match in midweek, but despite being named in Joachim Loew’s pool, he was one of a handful of youngsters not in contention to go to the World Cup.
“I just wanted to give off some gas,” he told Kicker. “This was the culmination of the season.”
Next Tuesday, Grosskreutz will undergo an operation on his knee meniscus, but has promised to be back in time for pre-season training.
“For World Cup participation, I would have indeed moved [the operation], but now my knee is to be operated upon on Tuesday in Munich. But I will be fit again in time for pre-season training in Dortmund, which starts on July 4.”
Doubtless the youngster is aware that exactly a week later, the final of the World Cup takes place, and he will want to see his cohorts involved in that climactic affair.
