6:0 against A.C. Milan - BVB U19 wins Ruhr 2010 Cup
Borussia Dortmund has won the high profile U19 tournament, that was held on the occasion of the Ruhr 2010 Capital of Culture.
The BVB was joined by Kaizer Chiefs, Werder Bremen, Fenerbahce Istanbul, A.C. Milan, Bayern Munich, F.C. Liverpool and archrivals Gelsenkirchen over Whitsun weekend, to play in six different cities of the Ruhr Metropolis. The opening games and the finals were held at Dortmunds time-honoured Kampfbahn Rote Erde.
Borussia had to take on Istanbul in the opening match and managed to beat them 2:0 (Eisfeld, Treude). In their second game against the Kaizer Chiefs Johannesburg our youngsters came up with the same result (Benatelli, Serrone). The last group fixture agains Werder ended 3:3. While Borussia advanced to the final, the Kaizer Chiefs had to play Gelsenkirchen for 3rd place. They lost the little final 2:1 but were awarded fairplay team of the tournament.
In the final, Borussia crushed Milan with a 6:0 landslide. Eisfeld scored three times and won the goalgetter trophy. The other goals were scored by Evers, Koch and Stenzel. Although BVB was awarded two penalties, of which at least one was doubtful, the high victory was well deserved as Milan had almost no chance to score. Julian Koch gave a last farewell to the ground were he played two years for our U23 reserve, as he will be joining 2nd Bundesliga side MSV Duisburg on loan next season. He showed a strong performance especially in the final and we hope to welcome him back in even better shape in summer 2011.
