<>Conceding three goals is not something a keeper would ordinarily take much pride in but the performance of Watford\'s Ben Foster\'s between the sticks at the Emirates Stadium against a resurgent Arsenal ensured that the margin of defeat was at least kept respectable for the visiting side.

<>At left-back, Wigan\'s Leighton Baines continued his impressive development by adding his first Premiership goal of the season to follow his mid-week appearance for England\'s U-21\'s. His strike from a well-worked free-kick from thirty yards was struck with such venom that Edwin Van de Saar was left grasping at thin air.

<>In central defence Sol Campbell\'s assured performance helped see off the efforts of a West Ham side who were showing glimpses of being somewhere near to their old selves once more. A clean sheet for Portsmouth ensures their fine start to the season keeps chugging along.

<>Alongside him, Robert Huth was part of a Middlesbrough back four which, denied the services of Jonathan Woodgate, managed to snuff out the threat of the Premiership\'s player of the month Andy Johnson and ease the pressure on under-fire manager Gareth Southgate with only their second victory of the season.

<>In midfield, the veteran winger Ryan Giggs returned as a second half substitute after a month out during Man United\'s match against Wigan. United\'s Welsh wing wizard reverted to the left wing and duly provided the cross, from a corner, for his side\'s equaliser. He was a constant threat and looks to have returned straight back to the fine form he was showing prior to his hamstring injury.

<>The ever-reliable Tim Cahill continues to find the net with impressive regularity for Everton. A gruelling 30-hour journey back from international duty with Australia in midweek did not seem to diminish Cahill\'s influence but his fine solo effort for the Toffees was still not enough to spare them their first defeat of the season.

<>Aston Villa\'s Gareth Barry achieved that rarest of things (at least for him) - a right-footed goal. It was no run-of-the-mill effort either as he jinked inside from the left before hitting an unstoppable strike from 30-yards to rescue a point for Martin O\'Neill\'s men against Spurs which leaves them as the only unbeaten team in the Premiership.

<>Blackburn\'s David Bentley takes his place on the right wing for Soccernet\'s Team of the Week. It was from his inviting cross that Benni McCarthy swept home Rovers goal and Bentley came close to scoring the winner himself from eight yards out when he brought a great save from Liverpool keeper Jose Reina.

<>Up front Wayne Rooney went some way to silencing his foolish critics with a fine display showcasing his many talents. All that was missing was a goal, although he came close in the first half when he beat two Wigan players before crashing a shot against the bar. His pass with the outside of his boot for Saha\'s goal and flicked pass to Solskjaer for United\'s third underlined what an unselfish, intelligent player he is.

England\'s next great hope, Arsenal\'s Theo Walcott, was given his first Premiership start for the Gunners against Watford, following a fine performance for the U-21\'s in midweek. He scored a goal that was almost Henry-esque in that game and on Saturday he linked up promisingly with the French legend before leaving to a standing ovation from a hugely impressed Emirates Stadium.

El-Hadji Diouf\'s was Bolton\'s hero at St. James Park on Sunday with two goals in two minutes as Sam Allardyce\'s men came from behind to claim a victory that moves them up to third place. Diouf was able to take advantage of some slack Newcastle defending to firstly get on the end of an Nikolas Anelka cross and then to seal the three points with a header from six yards.

Manager of the week goes to Alex Ferguson. His side went behind to an early goal at Wigan and were second best in the first half. However, his inspired decision to bring Giggs on at half-time changed the course of the game freeing Rooney from an unfamiliar berth on the left wing and allowing Giggs to provide the ammunition and spark so lacking in the first period. United ran out comfortable winners in the end and Ferguson\'s decision to risk Giggs following a lengthy lay-off paid off handsomely.

|
