Rockets have preliminary talks with Adelman

By JONATHAN FEIGEN
Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle

Rockets officials, while saying there are \"scenarios\" in which Jeff Van Gundy could return as coach, have held a preliminary meeting with former Trail Blazers and Kings coach Rick Adelman and investigated other options, a person with knowledge of the team\'s decision-making said.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey would not comment or confirm any steps other than meetings with Van Gundy.

Morey and Rockets owner Leslie Alexander met with Adelman, a former Rockets player. Morey spoke with Van Gundy on Tuesday.

The Rockets have also looked into other options. Though Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo said a team has asked for permission to speak with Sam Mitchell, a person with knowledge of that negotiation said Tuesday the Rockets had not contacted Colangelo.

Van Gundy had said after the Rockets\' first-round loss that he was considering whether to return as Rockets coach. Morey said on Tuesday that Van Gundy has \"been open all along to coming back. \"He\'s has been a part of the process,\" Morey said. \"Both sides want to feel a fit. He is open to coaching again in certain scenarios. We\'re trying to find on all levels if there can be a fit. He\'s got to feel that there is a fit for him.

\"There\'s some goals we have for things to be different and some goals he has for things to be different.\"

Van Gundy is under contract for one more season, but the remaining contract is not guaranteed. He can opt out of the contract up to three days after the end of the NBA season. Morey said he was not concerned at all about Van Gundy\'s ambivalence about returning.

\"I know Jeff,\" he said. \"If Jeff decides to move forward as coach, he puts his whole self into it going forward.\" The Rockets, however, are unsure enough if they will be going forward with him to begin looking at their choices.

在情况不明的情况下,火箭开始做别的准备了。

下面是当地fox电视台的消息
http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/pages/Sports/Detail?contentId=3215768&version=3&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=6.1.1
NBA sources tell FOX 26 Sports former NBA head coach Rick Adelman has interviewed with Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander to become the franchise\'s next head coach.

League sources tell Fox 26 Adelman flew from Portland to Alexander\'s home in South Hampton, New York to meet with the Rockets\' owner.
